In a statement signed by the IYC’s spokesman, Eric Omare, a lawyer said that Ijaws were the first to make a request for the creation of two additional states to wit: Toru-Ebe State from the present Delta, Edo and Ondo States and Oil Rivers State from the present Rivers and Akwa Ibom States
The group said that Jonathan cannot throw in the towel because of plans of those sponsoring insurgence in the country, stressing: “Nigeria belongs to all of us and everyone has the right to hold the highest office in the land irrespective of his or her tribal and religious background
The IYC said that it was not yet uhuru for the issue of resource control, adding that it would continue to push for total control of resources derivable from the Niger Delta region
The IYC took further the face-off of the Niger Delta with the North over resource control, which went a notch higher at the ongoing National Conference
