Shonekan, who served as the Head of Interim National Government from August 26, 1993 to November 17, 1993, died in Lagos on January 11 at the age of 85
Recall that after Babangida annulled the 1993 election, a national protest ensued, which forced him to step aside and hand over power to Ernest Shonekan on August 27, 1993, as the head of an interim national government.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who was at the Ikoyi residence of the deceased, reports that though journalists were not allowed into the deceased estate, but dignitaries were observed driving in and out after paying their condolences to the Shonekan Family.

The former governor in his condolence message to Shonekan’s widow, Margaret, said he received with grief the news of ex-Nigeria’s interim head of state’s demise on Tuesday.
