The source told the News Agency of Nigeria on condition of anonymity on Wednesday that the operation that led to his death was successful and averted further bloodshed in the state.
A statement by the Police Force Spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, on Monday said the team comprised the IGP-Intelligence Response Team, the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Force Department of Operations and the Rivers State Police Command.
In a press statement issued by the Nigerian Army, entitled: “End of road for notorious cultist, kidnapper and mass murderer – Don Waney,” signed by Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, the military announced the death of Johnson Igwedibia.
The total reward is N640 million, N440 million more than what the governor offered for the arrest of Don Waney, the kidnap kingpin and cultist linked with the killing of 23 people in Omoku on New Year’s Day
The command’s Spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Wike made this known during a broadcast in Port Harcourt following the killing of Johnson Igwedibia, popularly known as Don Waney, by the security forces on Saturday.
He said: “The people of ONELGA have been harassed, traumatized, maimed and killed needlessly. This is a great day for the people and end of the road for those who felt this day would never come. For their sponsors, they should know that there is a consequence for every action and a day of reckoning for all of us.”
