Top seed Simona Halep returned to sew up victory over Ajla Tomljanovic on Friday after their second round match at the Cincinnati Open had been suspended the previous day due to rain.

Former world number ones, Andy Murray and Victoria Azarenka, have been handed wildcards to compete at the Cincinnati Open next month, the tournament’s organisers have said.
The world No 9 withdrew from this week’s Masters event in Cincinnati with a right wrist problem and subsequent scans have revealed a tear in one of the tendons.
“I am very sorry to pull out of the Western & Southern Open as I always enjoy playing here,” Federer said.
The former world No 1, now placed 149 in the rankings, continues to be troubled by an injury to her left forearm that she initially suffered at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford and which forced her withdrawal after winning her first-round encounter.
The move brings into question Murray’s status for the US Open, which starts August 28 in New York, and even if he is able to play, it remains to be seen how well he can perform after missing the two major hardcourt warm-up events for the Flushing Meadows fortnight.
