The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that violent protest was recorded in Billiri from Tuesday as women in black attire blocked the Gombe-Yola federal highway over alleged state government’s delay in appointing the new Mai Tangale after kingmakers recommended three persons.
Prof. Abubakar Njodi, Secretary to the State Government, made this known at a news conference in Gombe on Friday.
The call, contained in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mary Malum, is sequel to the barrication of the Gombe to Yola highway for five hours by some women in Billiri town of the state on Friday.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria via telephone, the Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, said the incident occurred on Thursday night, adding that arrests had been made.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the women, who painted their faces in black colour, are protesting the perennial clashes between neighboring communities in Billiri, Shongom and Kaltungo Local Government Areas of the state.
