Adeosun made the call while declaring open the sixth Steering Committee meeting of the IMF-AFRITAC West 2 in Abuja, which was attended by the Senior Resident Representative of the IMF in Nigeria, Amine Mati; AFRITAC West 2 Coordinator, Oral Williams; Director-General of Budget Office, Ben Akabueze; and Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babatunde Fowler.

He said: “I saw the jersey on a visit to Port Harcourt and it was so resplendent on the kid wearing it. It was so colourful I had to send they should bring the girl wearing it only to find out that it was the jersey the FIRS donated to our organisation.

In the presentation, titled: “Achieving Voluntary Tax Compliance: The VAIDS Option,” the FIRS Chairman explained that the key motivation for introducing the scheme is that the country’s tax remittance rate remains low despite having some of Africa’s most profitable and well capitalised companies.
