The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), said it will collaborate with the Federal Government to fight diseases associated with animals following two cases of anthrax reported in Nigeria.

The Oyo State Government has sensitised butchers and livestock dealers on the deadly anthrax disease, as it strengthens surveillance of abattoirs for detection and prevention of the animal disease.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and the Lagos State Government Wednesday continued sensitisation and vaccination of animals across the state in the fight against Anthrax disease.
The Lagos State Government says it has confiscated, burnt and buried six animals infected with Anthrax disease to prevent its spread.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture, Olatokunbo Emokpae, said in a statement Friday, that the Ministry had also enhanced the surveillance of abattoirs and slaughter slabs in the state.
Yobe has commenced the vaccination of cattle and other livestock against anthrax in four local government areas of the State bordering Niger Republic.
The state Director of Veterinary and Livestock Services, Dr Zakariya Pakachi, disclosed this Wednesday in Kaduna, explaining that the engagement was to strengthen surveillance and reporting mechanisms.
