On February 13, 2014, the Lagos State Police Command presented seven men, who had been terrorizing the metropolis, attacking and breaking Automated Teller Machines.
While Lagosians and the banking industry celebrated the arrest of the ATM robbers, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja are worried sick about the revelations from some of the suspects.
According to the suspects, their own ATM robbery gang was headed by one Daniel Onuoha, 34.
Onuoha was also known as ‘Find money’ among criminals.
He was killed during a gun battle encounter with SARS men at Ilasamaja area.
The suspects stressed that their own gang was just one of several gangs, which attacks ATMs.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, said that the gang appeared to be a specialized one, since it had a medical doctor, a welder, a pastor and others.
Speaking about other ATM robbery gangs, Manko said: “The suspects also confessed that their overall leader, Daniel Onuoha, now late, has many other gangs he is operating with, aside from their own gang.”
The SARS operatives had already started mapping out strategies with the information they have, to go after other ATM robbers before they strike.
