The Niger State Police Command has announced the arrest of five suspected kidnappers.
They were arrested after they allegedly abducted two men and collected N21.6 million ransom.
The five suspects are alleged to belong to two different gangs of kidnappers.
They were arrested at Manigi Market in Mashegu and Bangi in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects have been identified as Ahumadu Abubakar (30), Ali Shehu (30), Abubakar Mohammed (21), Tabana Adamu (37) and Manu Farida (23).
The suspects were alleged to have been arrested after police received distressed calls that bandits were troubling traders.
The Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspects kidnapped Sanusi Garba at Manigi Market in Mashegu Council in his unregistered Toyota Corolla and dragged him into a bush, where he was robbed of N7.6 million and was later abducted.
Abubakar said: “The suspects collected a ransom of N10 million before Garba was released.
“The victim’s unregistered Toyota Corolla car was recovered during the operation.
“The suspects were among a six-man gang of kidnappers that kidnapped Alhaji Duna of Bori Aiki village of Mashegu Local Government Area and collected the sum of N4 million as ransom before he was released.”
