Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have shot dead a father and his son in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The killing, according to the Chairman of Guma Local Government Area, Anthony Shior, was carried out by the suspected herdsmen on Friday night.
Shior said: “As usual, the herdsmen on Friday night killed a father and son in a community close to Gbajimba.”
While the Commissioner, Benue State Police Command, Umar Muri, said he was not aware of the attack, the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, confirmed the development.
Ortom, who spoke after casting his vote in Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections at Ako polling centre in Gbajimba, said he had been informed that a father and his son were killed close to the community.
He said: “Some militants belonging to the opposition killed a father and son in the LGA.
“I have already informed the security agencies and I pray that the people (killers) will be apprehended.
“I have heard of the burning of electoral materials in some wards.”
