Players of the Super Eagles of Nigeria have refused to vacate their hotel rooms in Windhoek, Namibia for the flight to Brazil for the Confederation Cup due to start on Saturday.
The refusal of the Eagles to depart their hotel rooms followed what they termed as the paltry sum offered them as match bonus for the game they drew against the Brave Warriors of Namibia in the African Group F qualifier for the 2014 World Cup.
The Eagles were offered a bonus of $2,500, which they rejected.
A source in the Eagles camp in Namibia told The Eagle Online that negotiation was still on with the players on the need for them to accept the sum offered them by the Nigeria Football Federation.
However, as at press time, the players had not accepted.
The Eagle Online last week reported that the Coach Stephen Keshi-led boys, whose bonuses were slashed from S10,000 to S5,000, refused the offer after demolishing the Harambee Stars of Kenya in Nairobi.
Source in the Eagles’ camp hinted that the situation has continued to degenerate as members of the team have decided not to leave their hotel rooms in Windhoek to catch a flight to Johannesburg, South África where they are expected travel to Brazil for the Confederation Cup.
Effort to reach the Secretary General of Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Musa Amadu, proved abortive as his mobile phones were switched off.
