African champions, Nigeria, will clash with the champions of North and Central America, Mexico, in a high-profile international friendly match in Houston, Texas, United States of America on May 31.
“The Nigeria Football Federation and its Match Agent, Eurodata Sport Marketing Sportivo Culturale, are pleased to announce that the Super Eagles will play against Mexico’s Senior Team in a friendly match at the Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas on Friday, May 31, starting from 9pm Texas time,” NFF General Secretary, Barrister Musa Amadu, said on Wednesday.
Amadu added: “We are pleased that the reigning African champions will have such high-quality final preparation for the important games that we have in the month of June.”
The Super Eagles, currently top of their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, take on Kenya’s Harambee Stars in Nairobi on June 8 before travelling to the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Then, another FIFA World Cup qualifying date against Namibia’s Brave Warriors awaits the team in Windhoek.
In Brazil, the Eagles play against Tahiti, Uruguay and World and European champions Spain while the Mexicans clash with host Brazil, Italy and Japan in Group A.
The match in Texas will be the third of a five-match American tour for the Mexicans, who also face daunting dates in CONCACAF’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying race in June.
The last time both countries met was in a battling friendly inside the Estadio Olimpico Benito Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico in October 2007.
It ended 2-2.
