Nigeria and Inter Milan midfielder, Joel Obi, is close to joining the league of Nigerian players in the English Premier League as Sunderland is set to make a move for the enforcer.
Obi is understood to have also been on the Black Cats’ radar in the past and the club’s new Italian-orientated set-up, with Director of Football, Roberto De Fanti, and Technical Director, Valentino Angeloni, advising Sunderland’s Manager, Di Canio, to move for the creative whiz kid.
Angeloni, a former Inter’s chief scout, is believed to be behind the revival of interest in Obi. The Nigerian international is a favourite of Premier League managers and has been linked with Everton and Tottenham in the past.
Obi made his international debut for Nigeria in a friendly game against Sierra Leone in Lagos and has played 10 games for the Super Eagles. He debuted for Inter in a UEFA Champions League group stage game against Werder Bremen in 2010.
