The 36 states of the federation are still dissatisfied with the handling of the Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government.
To resolve the issue, the governors of the 36 states, under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, have decided to head to the Supreme Court for the resolution of the matter.
The governors want to challenge the powers of the Federal Government to make deductions from the account for fuel subsidy.
The Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Rivers State, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, said the governors have opted to seek “a final resolution from the Supreme Court.”
Amaechi decried the “present attitude of the Federal Government on the Excess Crude Account.
“The NGF therefore resolved to take no further adjournments in the subsisting case in court over the issue.”
Other issues discussed by the governors at their meeting, the first in 2013, Amaechi said, included the security situation in the country and the institution of a monthly polio eradication campaign.
