Detectives at the Nigeria Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos State were shocked recently when one of the policemen they had arrested for robbery and who they assumed must have been dismissed, came to the office with a signal indicating he had been posted to work there.
The policeman, simply identified as Corporal Jerome by sources, was said to have been serving in the Mobile Police Unit 2, Keffi, when he was arrested for robbery in 2012.
Jerome was arrested by officers and men of the SARS, Ikeja and interrogated by them.
But a year after his arrest, Jerome reported to SARS with a police signal, posting him to the same office that had investigated him.
The signal further showed that he had been working with Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State.
The first person to recognize and identify Jerome was the Investigating Police Officer that handled his case.
He was in 2012 found guilty.
The IPO quickly alerted the Officer-in-Charge of the SARS, Abba Kyari.
Kyari was not the only worried policeman at SARS over Jerome’s transfer to the office.
The different teams working under Kyari also insisted that their lives were not safe as long as Jerome is allowed to work in that Unit.
Kyarri had immediately gone to report the appearance of Jerome to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration in Lagos State.
Jerome was arrested a year ago after he went to smoke Indian hemp at Ipodo area of Ikeja in Lagos State and picked two boys to go on a robbery operation with him.
The three went on a motorbike and made way their way to Oba Akran, also in Ikeja area of Lagos State.
They were said to have succeeded in the robbery and were already leaving when policemen, attached to Area F Command, Ikeja, received a distress call from the scene of the robbery.
The police chased the bike riders and rammed into their motorbike with their patrol van, forcing them to fall and stop. The trio was arrested.
Jerome was identified by his police identity card found in his pocket.
While the other two were charged to court, Jerome, going by the rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police, ought to have gone for orderly room trial and if found guilty dismissed.
And Jerome was found guilty by the investigations.
So, the assumption in the SARS office was that Jerome was dismissed.
It was learnt that Jerome is undergoing another orderly trial after he was apprehended when he showed up at the SARS office.
