SFU arrests two for defrauding military personnel of N7.3m

The Special Fraud Unit, Milverton, Ikoyi, Lagos State in its renewed efforts to rid the society of fraudsters has arrested some land speculators who duped some military personnel and other innocent Nigerians of their hard earned money.
In a petition to the Commissioner of Police, SFU, dated March 8, 2013, the complainants alleged that sometime in September 2010, the duo of Ayoade Precious Abidemi and Tope Ajisigiri Kehinde approached them that they have a large expanse of land for sale at Ofada, Ogun State.
The military personnel, having indicated interest, paid N7.3 million to them with the expectation that the land would be allocated to them.
The soldiers’ suspicion was however aroused when they requested for title document but were presented with forged survey plan.
The suspects were arrested.
Investigation revealed that Ayoade Precious Abidemi, 29, is a graduate of Yaba College of Technology and the Managing Director of Ampris Global Resources.
He stated that he registered his company in 2009 to sell and develop estate and that he had an agreement with a family to purchase 200 acres of land, which he had started paying for in tranches.
He confessed obtaining the said sum from the complainants but said that he had no intention to defraud them since he had allocated some plots to some of the buyers.
He further confessed that he had not processed the Certificate of Occupancy with the Ogun State Land Registry, adding that he had however sent an application to that effect.
He promised to refund all the complainants their money.
Tope Ajisigiri Kehinde, 30, is a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.
She started with Ampris Global Resources as Property Consultant and rose to the post of Business Development Manager.
She marketed the land to the complainants and provided them with the company’s account number where they paid in their money for subscription.
She equally collected some cash from the buyers.
Just like her boss, she denied every attempting to defraud the complainants.
SFU spokesperson, Ngozi Isintume-Agu, who confirmed the story, said that investigation was still ongoing, adding that the Commissioner of Police, SFU, Tunde Ogunsakin, has advised members of the public who wish to own landed properties to ascertain its genuineness before investing their money.
