SFU arrests ‘doctor’ for attempting to dupe Canadian Government

The Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police has arrested two suspected fraudsters, Ibukun Ojo and Steve Olusoji Fakolujo, over an attempt to defraud the Canadian Government by benefitting from the country’s health insurance scheme.
Ojo, who claimed to be a medical doctor, has, however, been found to be a drop out medical student.
Ojo reportedly forges documents for Nigerians living overseas for criminal activities.
The spokesperson of the SFU, Ngozi Isintume-Agu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said on March 16, 2013, the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria petitioned the anti-crime agency over the attempted fraud.
The Canadian Government alleged that Ojo was using Mount Zion Clinic/Hospital, located at 2, Mukandasi Street, Oja-Oke, Oshodi, Lagos State, as a front to defraud its home government.
It was alleged that Fakolujo, a Nigerian, resident in Canada, came home sometime in May 2012 and approached Ojo to assist him procure some forged medical bills to enable him claim health insurance from the Canadian Government.
Isintume-Agu said: “The suspect obliged him and forged some documents, which some are medical professional and consultation charges, drugs and medications, ambulance fees, accommodation and feeding and other miscellaneous expenses.
“All these came down to N89,989,742.46.
“Steve travelled back to Canada and presented the forged documents for claim.
“The suspect, Ojo Ibukun, was later arrested and he has made useful confessions to the Police.”
Ojo, 50, is from Arigidi Akoko in Ondo State.
Ojo said he was a medical student drop-out who practices medicine and runs Mount Zion Clinic as a one man business.
He admitted committing the crime.
He said Fakolujo paid him N1,500 for the report he made available to him.
