Seven burnt beyond recognition in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway multiple crash

Many persons were on Tuesday feared to be dead as a car and two trailers crashed on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to available information, the accident occurred in Alapako/Ogunmakin area of the expressway in Ogun State.
Sources told The Eagle Online that no fewer than seven corpses burnt beyond recognition have been picked from the scene of the accident.
The seven persons were said to be travelling in the back luggage compartment of one of the trucks, which was accused of wrongful overtaking, leading to a head-on collision with oncoming vehicles.
The accident, which occurred at about 11:25am, occurred near the sandcrete within 5km radius of where RCC diverted traffic to enable repairs of the weakened bridges around the sections of the expressway.
Those involved in the crash were 12 male adults.
While one was injured, seven were burnt beyond recognition.
The accident involved a Toyota Yaris with registration number MUS 46 EA; a MAC truck and a DAF truck, with the numbers of both not known, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Just on January 9, 2018, 10 persons were killed on the same spot where there is a diversion, a development on which the FRSC had issued traffic advisory and placed road signs.
The diversion, according to available information, may last till June 2018.
The FRSC, in a statement by its Public Education Officer, Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, said: “The FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander is hereby reiterating the need for motorists to exercise caution and obey the traffic signs erected on this segment of the road which may remain till June 2018 before the repairs is completed and the road open to traffic.
“Travelers are also advised to refrain from traveling inside containers as the 07 burnt victims were traveling inside the container of the truck which caused the crash as it embarked on dangerous overtaking at the portion traffic was diverted and collided with oncoming vehicles.”
