SERVICOM lauds NBS for timely release of data

Nnenna Akajemeli, National Coordinator, SERVICOM, on Thursday in Abuja applauded National Bureau of Statistics for their timely release of data to ensure development in the country.
Akajemeli, who gave the commendation when she visited the Statistician General of the Federation, Dr Yemi Kale, said that the timely release of data would enhance policy formulation and National growth.
She said: “We are here to commend the National Bureau of Statistics for their excellent service delivery.
“The National Bureau of Statistics under the leadership of Dr Yemi Kale has been consistent and timely in the release of data and indicators covering various areas of national interest.
‘‘Data provide the basis for which decision makers in government make evidence based resolutions and policies that affect the well-being of the citizens.
‘‘We are also here to discuss areas of partnership with NBS to promote effective service delivery in the country and encourage citizens to work hand to hand with government.’’
The SERVICOM boss added that her organisation had the staff strength and capacity to help NBS achieve their set goals, stating that the collaboration will enhance economic growth and development.
In his remarks, Dr Kale, Statistician General of the Federation, thanked SERVICOM for acknowledging their efforts in managing the nation’s data.
He said that the sole responsibility of NBS was to develop, promote and manage official statistics as a tool for development and evidence based policy making.
He added that National Bureau of Statistics advises government at all levels on matters related to statistical development.
Kale said: ‘‘We have a goal to become one of the foremost modern knowledge-based national statistics office in Africa and indeed the world and we are getting there.’’
He assured SERVICOM of their support and partnership in training their staff to enhance their skills in conducting survey.
Kale said that his organisation would create an opportunity for SERVICOM to participate in surveys carried out by the bureau.
He said: “We will provide technical expertise in the design of surveys to gauge citizens’ perception of key public services suing the pilot approach.
“For example perception of Nigerians on how Federal Road Safety Corp handles complaints arising from license application among others.
“We will jointly design nationwide service delivery surveys to make data available to enhance the quality of government decisions and effective interventions both locally and internationally in order to improve the connectivity index of citizens to the government.’’
