A 34-year-old security guard, Nwabueze Ileche, was on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly defrauding a job seeker of of N337,000.
The police charged Ileche, whose address was not given, with conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and theft.
He pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Kenrich Nomayo, said the defendant fraudulently collected the money from the complainant, Dayo Olorunshola.
He said Ileche promised Olorunshola of a job at Friesland Campina Wamco Nigeria Limited at Ogba, Lagos.
Nomayo told the court that the defendant and some persons at large committed the offence on April 11 at 6am at Ogba, Lagos.
He said all efforts made by the complainant to get back his money from the defendant failed.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 314 stipulates 15 years jail term.
Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Adeola admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adeola adjourned the case until October 20 for mention.
