Scam as 120,000 jostle for 986 job slots in Delta

Complaints of financial inducement has crippled the recruitment exercise into the Delta State Civil Service Commission.
Applicants, who allegedly paid between N200,000 and N500,000, even as some pledged one year salary, are now threatening fire and brimstone.
The earlier warning by the Chairman of the commission, Chief Emmanuel Tetshola, that “the exercise is not for sale”, urging staff of the commission to steer clear of bribery, was allegedly turned down.
The exercise was abruptly put on hold by the state following heart breaking discoveries in the recruitment.
Some members of the commission and political appointees were said to have collected monies to assist some job seekers to secure slots.
Besides, the over 120,000 applications before the commission was said to have disorganized its members.
The goodwill of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who selflessly removed the embargo placed on employment in the state years back and prepared vacancies for 986 persons, has been endangered.
Also, applicants became angry because they were made to pay N1,000 each to access the job website before the governor stopped it.
The governor wondered why job seekers were being subjected to such harshness.
Teshola however said the application has since closed, warning applicants not to fall into the hands of fraudsters.
He decried a situation where some applicants depend of godfathers and political jobbers to secure jobs.
He said: “We are taking the examination seriously because it is from the examination that we will select the best hands.
“Some people think that they can sit in their houses and pay money to get employed.
“The recruitment exercise is not for sale.”
