Sambo excited as Nigeria, Canada trade volume hits $3b

With over $3 billion volume of trade, Nigeria has emerged the largest trading partner of Canada in the sub-Sharan Africa.
Expressing delight over this development, Vice President Namadi Sambo on Friday in Toronto, Canada stated that stability of government remains the attraction of foreign investors.
Speaking at the ongoing Nigeria, Canada investment forum in Toronto, the vice president noted the positive contributions of Canada to Nigeria’s successful democratic journey, stating: “It is pertinent to note that Nigeria and Canada enjoy excellent bilateral relations at all levels.”
According to him, the signing of the Bi-National Commission agreement on April 23, 2012, opened a new chapter of mutually strategic relations between both countries.
Canada, he said, recognises Nigeria’s unique role in Africa and global affairs and expressed readiness to take good advantage of the investment friendly environment provided by Nigeria through the economic, social, institutional and political reforms introduced by the past and present administration in Nigeria, especially in the last one and a half decade.
Sambo, therefore, expressed delight with the large turn out of both Nigeria and Canadian investors and was optimistic that the conference will achieve its set target of deepening voluminous trade between the two countries and subsequent spontaneous participation of the private sectors.
Highlights of the event were brief remarks by the Canadian and Nigerian foreign ministers; presentation by Ministers of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga; National Planning, Dr. Samsudeen Usman; and the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, on the enormous opportunities awaiting investors.
The conference is being attended by the Governors of Abia, Thoedre Orji; Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi; Gombe, Ibrahim Dakwambo; Bauchi, Isa Yuguda; Plateau, Jonah Jang; Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun; and Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, as well as about 12 ministers.
The conference witnessed a large attendance of about 100 chief executives of private firms from both countries.
