Nigeria Premier League side, Rivers United, has retained 21 players ahead of the new season.
The Rivers State team will commence preparations for the 2017/18 season on October 16.
The retained players are Festus Austine, Sunday Rotimi, Abiodun Akande, Chiwendu Ali, Markson Ojobo, Bernard Ovoke, Guy Kuemian, Olalekan Gabriel, Ayobami Asekunowo, Semiu Liadi.
Others are Obomate Frederick, Daniel Israel, Weli Christian, Kingsley Patrick, Bolaji Sakin, Emeka Ogbugh, Aliasou Sanou, Doumbia Zoumana, Emeka Atuloma, Kanoute Abdoulaye and Ifeanyi Nweke.
Meanwhile, the club’s stakeholders converged in Port Harcourt to chart a positive course for the new season.
The stakeholders brainstormed on the club’s underwhelming performances in all competitions last season and also attempted to produce a Blueprint for a successful 2017/2018 season.
The Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Hon. Boma Iyaye, acted as Chief host, while former Nigeria international, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, served as Chairman of the occasion.
The Chairman of the Rivers State Football Association, Christopher Green, was the keynote speaker at the event, which attracted elders, RUFC youth wing, members of the supporters club, club’s official WhatsApp channel and fans of the football club.
