Rivers rerun: PDP, APC share senatorial, Reps, House of Assembly seats

The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Monday that the Peoples Democratic Party won two of the three senatorial districts in the rerun legislative election in Rivers State.
Dr. Mustapha Lecky, the commission’s National Commissioner in charge of the South South, made the announcement on Tuesday.
Lecky said the All Progressives Congress won one senatorial seat.
He said Magnus Abe of the APC scored 125,938 votes to beat Olaka Nwogu of the PDP who had 25,394 votes for the Rivers South East Senatorial District.
He also said George Sekibo of the PDP recorded 93,098 votes to beat Andrew Uchendu of the APC who scored 34,193 votes in the rerun for Rivers East Senatorial District seat.
For Rivers West Senatorial District, the candidate of the PDP, Osinachukwu Ideozu, was declared the winner.
The Returning Officer for the senatorial district, Prof. Raphael Echebiri, announced that PDP’s Ideozu got 107,166 votes to defeat his opponent from the All Progressives Congress, Otelemaba Amachree, who polled 46,898 votes.
Lecky said the APC won three House of Representatives seats, while the PDP won one.
He also said the two parties won three seats each in the results of the state assembly released.
He said: “With regards to federal constituencies, we have eight federal constituency seats that were contested.
“Out of this eight, four have been declared and four are outstanding.
“These four outstanding are Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro, Bonny/ Degema, Etche/Omuma and Okrika/Ogu/Bolo.
“As far as state constituencies are concerned, we have nine state capital positions that were contested.
“Six out of these nine have been declared, three are outstanding, which include Andoni, Etche II and Gokana.”
Lecky said that violence in Etche Local Government Area affected the conclusion of the election in the area.
He said: “As a result, we were not able to conclude the outstanding rerun election in Etche, pending further announcement from INEC.
“As regards the issue of Andoni, which is also outstanding, we had a lot of difficulties due to lots of violence.
“We went back there several times and up till this moment, we had a meeting with Andoni stakeholders and we have agreed that we can reset the collation.”
