The Independent National Electoral Commission has rebuffed efforts by the All Progressives Congress to submit its list of candidates from Rivers State for the 2019 elections, Saturday Tribune is reporting.
The highly revered newspaper said a source within the Commission told it that APC officials who came to submit the party’s list of candidates for next year’s elections were directed to hold on to its Forms C00I and C002 on nominations from Rivers State pending the receipt and interpretation of the Supreme Court judgment.
The Supreme Court had on Monday set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division, which vacated a stay order made by a Rivers State High Court against the conduct of APC congresses in the state, a development the leadership of the party said meant the National Working Committee-sanctioned candidates can stand for the 2019 elections.
It was in this wise that the leadership of the party on Thursday night vowed to submit the candidates’ list to INEC.
