Restriction of vehicular movement takes effect in Karu axis

The restriction of vehicular movement issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adams, was strictly observed in Kari-Jikwoyi axis of Abuja as early as 6:30am, the News Agency of Nigeria is reporting.

NAN reports that road blocks were mounted at strategic roundabouts and access roads in the area.

Adamu had ordered the restriction of vehicular movement from 6am to 6pm across the nation on election day.

This, he said, was to help security agencies in the electoral process and also prevent hoodlums from disrupting the processes.

Vehicles, motorcycles and tricycle drivers and passengers without valid identification and clearance to drive were turned back by the military and the police at various points.

However, voters were seen trekking long distances to get to their polling units to cast their votes, while others were already at the polling units awaiting the arrival of the electoral officers.

Meanwhile, some other residents were seen along the Central Bank of Nigeria estate junction observing their routine body exercise by the roadside.

Ali Mohammed said he wants to observe the exercise before going to vote as his polling unit was not far from the exercise venue.

Sharon Okoro told NAN that she was not able to pick up her Permanent Voters Card and so could not vote, hence, her decision to carry out the exercise.
