Residents of highbrow 1004 refuse to pay levies, estate shut by Lagos State

Residents of high brow 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos State, had their property shut for over five hours on Monday by the state government for refusing to pay levies that were due.
Among such levies the residents refused to pay are the Land Use Charge, Insurance and ground rent.
This led to the sealing of the estate on Monday by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Finance.
However, the intervention of the management of the estate saved the situation after over five hours.
They were given 48 hours to comply or have the estate shut again.
In a memo to the residents, the management of the estate appealed to them to pay up the outstanding levies to avoid future embarrassment.
The memo by the management reads: “We write to notify you that the Land Use Charge Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Finance sealed the estate today due to the outstanding partial settlement of the 2012 Land Use Charge bill. After extensive consultation, the estate was reopened after about 5 hours of being closed down.
“We wish to urgently demand all flats that are still owing 2011, 2012 Land Use Charge, Insurance and Ground Rent bills to please pay up as the grace period granted the estate is just 48 hours.”
