As Muslims all over the world observe the religious obligation of Ramadan, the Niger State Government has appealed to traders to reduce the prices of foodstuffs.
While making the appeal, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Comrade Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, said reducing the prices of foodstuffs by traders during Ramadan will attract rich rewards from the Almighty Allah.
Vatsa said this when members of a concerned Muslim group paid him a courtesy call in his office on Thursday, adding that foodstuffs are cheaper in other states.
He flayed the current prices of food stuff in the state, saying: “A recent market survey conducted showed that prices of staple food, especially in Minna markets, are higher than any other markets in the North Central zone of the country.”
Accordingly, he said: “Food items are supposed to be cheaper in Niger State if compared to other States of the Federation because of the large farmlands and produces.”
Vatsa therefore called on traders in all markets of the State to use the Holy month of Ramadan as a period during which they will get closer to Almighty God, the Creator of the Universe.
