The Kwara State Committee on Quick Win Employment and Empowerment Programme has concluded arrangements to train 1,872 unemployed youths in entrepreneurship to make them self-reliant.
Alhaji Isiaka Gold, the committee’s Chairman and Secretary to the Kwara State Government, said this on Friday in Ilorin after a meeting with the management of some select tertiary institutions.
Gold said the institutions would train the people in Basic Business Method, Packaging and Branding as well as Standard and Quality Control.
He said the other areas of training were Basic Marketing and Customers Relations, Basic Book Keeping and Banking Procedures, as well as Literacy and Basic Business Method.
According to him: “The first 200 youths will be on attachment for two weeks after which another batch of 200 will commence until they are all trained.”
Gold said they were expected to develop viable business plans within three months to qualify them to secure loans from select micro-finance banks.
Responding on behalf of the institutions, the Provost of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. Mas’ud Elelu, expressed gratitude to the government for the honour.
Elelu promised that the institutions would justify the confidence reposed in them by impacting necessary knowledge on the youths to make them self-reliant.
He also commended the government for taking the bull by the horns in addressing unemployment in the state.
