The Pipelines Products Marketing Company has said that it has stepped up supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country to ensure that motorists do not have to queue at filling stations before buying fuel during the Easter period.
PPMC’s Manager, Public Affairs and External Relations, Nasir Imodagbe, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, said the company has intensified efforts at ensuring that fuel is available in every nook and cranny of the country so that people can travel with ease to join their families and friends for the Easter celebration.
Imodagbe said: “I can assure Nigerians that we have stepped up fuel supply and distribution across the country to ensure that motorists can drive into any filling station and buy fuel without queuing up, especially during this period of the year that comes with movement of motorists and commuters.
“The petroleum products we have in our storage facilities right now can serve the entire country for 40 days and we are receiving supplies every day. Therefore, I can assure you that there will be enough fuel from now through the period of the Easter.”
He called on motorists to avoid panic buying, adding: “There is no threat of fuel scarcity, we are working round the clock to surmount any distribution challenge and I can assure that the measures we have put in place are proving effective. So we call on motorists not to engage in panic buying which can result in unnecessary queues and create hardship for Nigerians, which is what we are trying to avoid.”
Imodagbe also called on major and independent petroleum marketers to cooperate with the NNPC/PPMC to ensure that petroleum products are adequately distributed so as to get them to members of the public.
He urged marketers to desist from products hoarding and the practice of dispensing fuel with only one nozzle at their fuel stations, explaining that any marketer found doing so would have their stations closed down by the relevant authorities.
It could be recalled that the Managing Director of the PPMC, Haruna Momoh, recently said that with over 2.6 billion litres of PMS, otherwise known as petrol, the country has no reason to experience fuel shortage for some time.
According to Momoh, the NNPC has always ensured regular supply of PMS.
He said: “The vandals have always frustrated the efforts by NNPC to provide regular supply of PMS.
“The 5,120 kilometre pipeline network are not being adequately utilised due to pipeline vandalism.
“We want vandals to be prosecuted and sent to jail to discourage others who may see the business as lucrative.”
Momoh said NNPC has stocked up over 2.6 billion litres of petrol in 258 tanks of different sizes in its depots across the country, adding that the current stock of PMS would not be static.
He promised that the profile of the volume in the depots would be continually increased.
