The National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Chief Sam Nkire, has commended and congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for the commencement of work on the Second Niger Bridge.
Nkire, however, said he hoped the move was not politically motivated.
The PPA boss said the Second Niger Bridge project was coming on stream so close to the Anambra State governorship election, that his party was left with no option than to suspect that it was a ploy to enhance the chances of Jonathan’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party, at the poll.
Nkire admitted that the project, when completed, would improve economic activities in the region.
He noted that if it was aimed at reversing the dwindling fortunes of the PDP in Anambra State, it was coming too late.
According to him, the next governor of Anambra State would be produced by either the PPA or the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Nkire who said that the PPA supported President Jonathan’s candidacy in the 2011 election, added that the party had since learnt its lessons from that misadventure.
The PPA boss therefore declared that his party would from the forthcoming elections continue to field presidential candidates until it produces a progressive Nigerian president who can deliver the goods.
