Police promise to prosecute trigger happy cop

Trouble is not over for runaway police Corporal, Emmanuel Okuju, who shot his lover’s elder sister on February 10, 2012.

Joseph Jaiyeoba, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, while reacting to the dismissed corporal’s return to the police command on Tuesday, said Okuju and his girlfriend, Patience, will face the full wrath of the law.
Jaiyeioba stated that the Command is sad with Okuju’s behaviour and will not spare him as he has since been arrested and will soon be charged to court after a thorough investigation for attempted murder of 23-year-old Blessing Isabor, while his pregnant girlfriend would be charged for conspiracy to commit murder.
He said: “The incident is quite unfortunate because it’s a policeman that is the accused here. So much is expected from him.
“During interrogation, he said the incident was the handiwork of the devil but investigations are ongoing and based on the outcome, Okuju could be tried for attempted murder while the sister (Patience) could be charged for conspiracy.”
Okuju, attached to the Ifako Police Station, shot Blessing on the cheeks. He then fled with Patience and was not seen for over three months at his duty post.
He was thus dismissed and declared wanted after a month of deserting his duty post.
His arrest has brought great relief to the Isabor family who had engaged the media and human rights outfits to help the family champion their fight to get Okuju arrested.
Steven Isbor praised the media for the dogged fight to arrest Okuju.
Okuju and Patience are in the custody of the police at the state headquarters, Ikeja undergoing interrogation.
