The Lagos State Police Command has commenced the investigation of a teacher of Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, Osifala Olaseni, over allegations that he sexually assaulted a JSS2 student of the school.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.
Owoseni said this when the Commander of 435 BSG, Paul Masiyer, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Owoseni said: “As a responsible organization, we are aware of a story trending on social media accusing a male teacher of Queens College, one Mr. Osifala, of assaulting a student.
“We did not wait for a formal complaint to be reported to the police as we have escalated a process to bring whoever is responsible to account.
“We have invited the Principal and Mr. Osifala and I interrogated them.
“Our Compliant Response Unit has also taken over the investigation and we have received a letter from the Old Girls Association on their interim report on the matter.
“We have stepped into the matter even without them calling us onto it.”
The mother of the allegedly assaulted student, Chinyere Okoye, said Olaseni, who is a Biology teacher, molested her daughter.
However, both the management of the school and students described the allegation as false.
