The Gombe State Police Command on Friday recovered the corpse of a middle-aged woman in a decomposed state, with some of the parts missing.
Addressing newsmen in Gombe, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Fwaje Atajir, said the corps was discovered on Thursday around 10am in Sabon Layi, Gombe.
Atajir said that the body had been taken to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital for post-mortem, adding: “For now, nobody knows the cause of death.
“It is after the post-mortem examination we will get a clue.”
Atajir said that the place where the corpse was found was a suspected criminal hideout.
He, however, said that no arrest had been made but that the police were still investigating the incident.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria that before the body was taken by the police, it had started decomposing with some organs missing.
