The Acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, said the command would provide temporary accommodation for 10 families displaced by the recent fire incident at the Panti Police Barracks in the state.
Imohimi gave the assurance when the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Hajia Asmau Idris, paid him a courtesy visit in Lagos on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Panti Police Barracks was gutted by fire on Monday.
A similar incident had occurred at the barracks in March 2016.
Imohimi said: “The fire incident was an unfortunate one and all we have to do is to ameliorate the suffering of the displaced families.
“We have reached out to our partners to get the displaced families a suitable accommodation while the barracks will be rebuilt.
“I have also spoken to the State and Local Government so that we get a place for them as we look for a temporary place for them to manage.”
Imohimi said that those traumatised by the incident and still in shock would be closely monitored and given medical attention.
Imohimi further said that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained as the fire service was yet to conclude its findings.
Earlier, Idris described the fire incident as unfortunate and commended the police commissioner for his support to women and children.
NAN reports that Idris, who also donated some relief materials to the victims, urged Imohimi to continue to support the Police Officers Wives Association.
