The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Ikechukwu Aduba, on Monday said the command had recently apprehended 31 armed robbers and kidnappers in the state.
Aduba, who disclosed this to newsmen in Warri, said 140 ammunition were recovered from the criminals.
He said the sophisticated intelligence network in the state was responsible for the arrest.
The commissioner commended the vigilance groups for the cooperation in the fight against crime in the state.
He said: “Most of the achievements recorded in the state is through the assistance of the vigilance groups and the immediate communities which provided useful information to us.
“Recently, we were able to recover two AK 47 riffles from cultist in Otu-Jeremi.
“So, there is intelligence network.”
On the allegation that kidnappers were using cattle rearers to hide victims, Aduba said the command would constitute a committee comprising the police, the Department of State Security and the Fulanis to find solution to the problem.
Aduba also said that the command’s collaboration with Edo and Anambra States police commissioners had started yielding good result.
He said: “Last week, a pastor was kidnapped in Anambra.
“We went and rescued the victim and apprehended the suspects.
“Similarly, the robbers that killed some policemen and soldiers in Auchi were apprehended in Delta.
“So, the collaboration is working.”
Aduba said the command would also address the challenges of manpower, noting that it was a general problem in all sectors of the economy.
