The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, has been upgraded to a degree awarding institution.
This approval was given to Academy by the National Universities Commission on Tuesday.
The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, conveyed the NUC’s approval to the institution.
Okojie encouraged the police hierarchy to ensure that standards were maintained, adding: “This will ensure that proficiency is nurtured to help management structure.”
The Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Capt Caleb Olubolade, said: “The police force now requires an institution that is service-oriented, especially now that our state of insecurity calls for dedicated training and capacity building.”
With the NUC’s approval of the police academy as a degree awarding institution, the number of universities in Nigeria has become 124.
