PDP puts pressure on Kwara chapter to withdraw statement indicting Saraki’s wife

The national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party has mounted pressure on the Kwara State chapter to withdraw its statement on Barrister Toyin, the wife of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
The Kwara State chapter of the PDP had on Sunday said it originated the petition that led to Toyin’s invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
She is expected to appear before the EFCC for grilling on Tuesday over some contracts awarded and executed by her during her husband’s tenure as the governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.
It was learnt that the national officers on Sunday evening mounted pressure on the Kwara State chapter to withdraw the statement confirming it originated the petition.
It was gathered that the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Olisa Metuh, was the arrowhead of the national officers seeking for the withdrawal of the statement.
The national officers were said to have put several calls through to the Kwara State Publicity Secretary of the party, Rex Olawoye, who signed the statement.
It was learnt that the national headquarters of the PDP is backing its demand with the working relationship between the PDP and Saraki’s party, the All Progressives Congress, which led to the emergence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy President of the Senate.
When the PDP had the majority in the National Assembly between 1999 and May 2015, it produced all the principal officers of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
But the alliance between Saraki and the PDP saw Ekweremadu emerging as the Deputy President of the Senate.
As at press time on Sunday evening, Olawoye was said not to have caved in to the demand to withdraw the statement.
