PDP NWC cautions aides of elected officials on issuing of statements

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has cautioned aides of its elected officials to desist from rushing to make statements that could cast aspersions on such officials.
This was contained in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, on Monday in Abuja.
Metuh said this was in reaction to statements credited to Governor Martins Elechi of Ebonyi State on the proposed national conference by one of his aides.
According to the party spokesman, the purported statement portrays the governor in bad image.
He added that the PDP as an organised democratic institution had duly established channel of external communication.
This, he said, was carried out with the utmost sense of responsibility after due clarifications on issues.
Metuh said: “It is therefore wrong and completely unacceptable for anybody to present statements made by individuals who are not members of the NWC on the official position of the party.
“More so when such statements were made without due clarifications from the governor.”
He, therefore, cautioned aides of elected party officers at all levels and particularly governors’ aides to desist from rushing to make unnecessary statements that could ridicule the party`s elected officials.
Metuh warned such aides to henceforth guard their actions and utterances and to ensure that they did not in any way undermine the unity and stability of the party.
“In the same vein, all unauthorised persons must also desist from making statements in manners that suggest such to be the official position of the NWC on party issues,” Metuh said.
He stressed that the PDP NWC had never in any manner made or authorised any comment on the report.
He restated the commitment and respect of the PDP NWC to all the party`s elected officials, especially its governors, whom he said remain its strong pillars.
Metuh particularly restated the NWC respect for Elechi, whom he noted was one of the best governors in the country.
He said that Elechi was one of the leading lights behind the stability and growth of not only the PDP as a party, but the institution of democracy in Nigeria generally.
The party spokesman added that Elechi as a seasoned democrat and statesman played key roles in the creation of Ebonyi State.
He added: “It is unacceptable to the NWC for any person under any guise whatsoever to make comments that may ridicule or seek to ridicule his image and portray him in bad light.”
He said that the earlier comments credited to the governor were uncalled for because the governor and the NWC were on the same page in supporting the proposed national conference.
