The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has demanded the resignation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress.
Tambuwal was elected on the platform of the PDP.
He announced his defection to the APC on Tuesday.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Tuesday, said the National Working Committee of the PDP met with the leadership of the party in the House on the development on Tuesday.
Metuh said after thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that “the Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority”.
By implication, the party requires Tambuwal to resign.
Metuh added in the statement: “We are not unmindful of the fact that Hon. Tambuwal became Speaker on the platform of the PDP as the political party with the majority of seats in the House of Representatives and that this incontrovertible fact has not changed.”
