Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has said the government of the Peoples Democratic Party at the federal and state levels have not brought any form of development to the South West geopolitical zone of the country.
The governor stated this in Iwo, the headquarters of the Iwo Local Government Area, just as eminent septuagenarian lawyer, Otunba Adebayo Aremu, said the trajectory of the town’s politics shows clearly a preference for forward-looking politicians who promote the welfare of the downtrodden.
The ancient town of Iwo stood still for several hours on Friday as members of the All Progressives Congress in Iwo gathered with one voice to endorse the second term bid of the governor.
It was a jam-packed playing field of the District Council Elementary School, Araromi, venue for the programme, as members and followers of the party in their thousands gathered to express their appreciation for Aregbesola.
Prominent among the sons and daughters of Iwoland, who spoke at the event were the Ekerin of Iwoland and a former Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bola Asafa.
The eminent lawyer, who told the gathering that he practiced law in Ogun State for many years before relocating home, said the people of the city had never had it better.
Reminding the gathering of the marvel of feeding elementary school pupils everyday, provision of uniforms for 750,000 students, over 800 kilometres of roads in the state, restoration of peace and tranquility as opposed to the thick air of tension that pervaded the state under the PDP rule, Aremu said the achievements of Aregbesola in the last three and half years were unprecedented.
According to him: “Aregbesola’s government is incomparable.
“No administration in the history of Osun has performed as much as he has done.
“He has transformed not only Iwoland but the whole of Osun.”
Asafa, while praising the current administration for the massive works done, noted that though Osun State is poor in terms of financial resources and the degree of performance noticed so far has ranked Aregbesola among some of the best managers of resources Nigeria has produced.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mushood Adeoti, urged the people of Iwo and the entire state to continue to support the government and the party, stressing that it is only the All Progressives Congress that can move the state and the country forward in the right direction.
Adeoti said: “Look at our roads, look at the new schools he is building, a lot of our jobless youths are now gainfully employed as a result of the OYES scheme put in place by our governor.
“This government is feeding our elementary school pupils everyday.
“The PDP cannot do it.
“Don’t be deceived by their lies.”
Adeoti then went on to move a motion for the adoption of Aregbesola for a second term, which was seconded by Alhaji Liadi Ganiyu, another leader of the party in the local government area, to a loud applause from the teeming supporters of the party.
In his response, Governor Aregbesola, while promising his continued delivery of good governance to the people of Iwo and the entire state, announced to the excitement of the crowd that all the remaining roads projects around the town and those linking Iwo to the state capital and the neighbouring Oyo State would be reconstructed.
He said Iwo is key to the economic reconstruction of Osun State, saying indigenes have been known in history as enterprising people.
According to him: “The road from Papa boundary to Iwo will be done.
“We always stand by our promise because we are not like the people who ruled the state for seven and half years without anything to show for it.
“We thank our people for having confidence in us, for displaying the conviction that we hold our promises with tenacity.
“There is nothing we promised that will not be delivered.
“At a time in this state, they were the occupants of the three tiers of government: the Federal, State and Local Government and they couldn’t do anything positive for the state.
“They are supposed to hide their head in shame.
“We should all begin to tell ourselves that it is only the APC that can deliver good governance in the country.
“We should not live the campaign to politicians alone.”
The state helmsman then urged the people of the state to be filled with the love of God at all times as it is the love of God that can conquer any adversity that the enemy might be planning for the state towards the coming elections.
He urged them to ensure that they keep their voters card intact so as to be able to exercise their right as voters.
