For political pundits, it was a surprise seeing former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State at the wedding of President Goodluck Jonathan’s foster daughter in Abuja on Saturday.
Nigerians from all walks of life attended the wedding between Faith and Godswill Osim Edward, a Cross River State prince, held at the National Christian Centre and the reception at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Of late, former President Obasanjo has not attended functions involving Jonathan except the centenary celebration where he was honoured.
He arrived at the church wedding few minutes after 11am.
On his part, Governor Amaechi left the church before the end of the service.
Both gladiators were the cynosure of all eyes.
The church wedding was presided over by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
The bride read the lesson from the New Testament, the book of Ephesians 5:21-33.
According to Adeboye, the success of the marriage would depend largely on the head of the family, quoting from Ephesians Chapter 5, verses 22 to 25.
For the marriage to work, he advised the wife to submit to the husband while also enjoining the husband to always listen to advice from his wife.
Pastor Adeboye warned the relations of the couple to avoid interfering in their affairs as he encouraged the congregation to truly give their lives to Christ in order to partake in the marriage of the Lamb rather than the marriage of the anti-Christ.
Speaking at the reception, President Jonathan advised the couple not to share their problems with a third party either friends or parents.
“We are analogue and you are digital. Our advice can’t fit,” he said.
The President confessed it was not easy to let her go.
He however said giving a child out in marriage is the dream of every parent, adding: “It is both a sad and glorious occasion.”
The colourful ceremony was attended by state governors, ministers, PDP leaders, lawmakers, businessmen, diplomats and top government functionaries.
