Unidentified persons on Monday attacked officials of the Peoples Democratic Party Caretaker Committee, Kano State chapter.
The Public Relations Officer of the committee, Alhaji Ja’afar Bello, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano.
Bello said that the incident happened at 1:30pm when the committee was holding a meeting.
He said the attackers were armed with dangerous weapons and injured four persons during the attack.
He said: “We were about to finish our meeting when the attackers suddenly invaded the venue.
“Some of us escaped by jumping down from the third floor of the three-story building.”
Bello said it was by the miracle of God that the committee members escaped being lynched.
Malam Abubakar Rano, a journalist, who sustained a minor injury during the attack, told NAN that he jumped from the building when the attackers came.
When contacted, the Police Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Musa Daura, confirmed the incident.
Daura said four suspects were arrested and are being questioned at the Command’s State Criminal Investigation Department.
“Our people have arrested four persons in connection with the incident and are being investigated,” he added.
There was a disagreement in the process that led to the emergence of the members of the caretaker committee.
The state Governor, elected on the platform of the PDP, Mallam Rabiu Kwankwaso, is opposed to the caretaker committee.
Kwankwaso said he was not consulted by the National Executive Committee of the party before the caretaker committee was named.
While the governor and other members of the party were preparing for another election for the emergence of the State Executive Committee, the NEC, headed by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, announced a caretaker committee for the state.
