PDP can unseat Fayemi – Olubolade

The Peoples Democratic Party has the capacity to defeat Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State in the June 21 gubernatorial election, retired Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, has said.
Olubolade, the immediate past Minister of Police Affairs, made this known after picking the PDP nomination form to contest the poll in Abuja on Wednesday.
He solicited the support of Nigerians, irrespective of their state of origin, in his quest to become the next governor of Ekiti State.
On the possibility of unseating Fayemi in view of what the governor had achieved during the last four years, the former minister said: “Election is a contest.
“The issue of incumbency is irrelevant.
“We have what it takes to unseat Fayemi and he knows that.”
He said that being a former member of the Federal Executive Council and knowledgeable on issues of development, it would be easy for him to govern Ekiti State.
Olubolade downplayed claims that the government of Bayelsa State was supporting his bid to become governor of Ekiti State.
He said: “Maybe they (Bayelsa State Government) have read about what I did when I was the military governor of the state and decided to support me.
“If that is the case, they are welcome.
“I welcome people from all parts of the country if they want to support me.”
Olubolade said that his “clean” military records, his achievements as military administrator of Bayelsa State and Police Affairs minister qualified him to be the next governor of Ekiti State.
“It will be a great disservice if I did not offer myself to govern Ekiti,” he added.
The former minister, however, said that he would support the emergence of a consensus candidate if it was the will of the people of the state.
He said that though PDP aspirants for the election were currently meeting on the emergence of a consensus candidate, the decision of the party’s national secretariat on the issue was final.
He said: “I subscribe to the idea of a consensus candidate and I know it will work, but the party is supreme.
“I am a disciplined person and will subscribe myself to the decisions of the party.”
