Over 1000 houses destroyed by rain in Dandume LG – Chairman

Alhaji Haruna-Ja Abdullahi, Chairman, Dandume Local Government Council, says recent persistent heavy rainfall has destroyed over 1000 houses across various communities in the area.
Abdullahi made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday.
He said: “The persistent heavy rain we are experiencing these days has rendered many families homeless, but we thank God there is no loss of life.
“We are doing everything possible to assist the affected people so as to reduce the pains they are experiencing due to the natural disaster.”
He assured that the council is working with the State Emergency Management Agency and National Emergency Management Agency to assist the affected communities.
According to the chairman, 1000 houses were those officially reported by victims, adding that the figure may be higher.
The District Head of Dandume, Alhaji Jafar Ibrahim said areas mostly affected included: Dandume, Tumburkau and Magaji Wando.
He appealed to relevant authorities, individuals and corporate organisations to urgently support the affected victims as most of them were poor villagers.
