Our governor yet to release any allocation to us – Niger ALGON

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Niger State on Thursday said its members are yet to receive any allocation from the joint account allocation committee of the state.
Addressing newsmen in Minna, the Niger State capital on Thursday, the Chairman of ALGON, Alhaji Tanko Garba Kagara, who was flanked by John Taman, Secretary, and Yahuza Mohmmed, the Legal Adviser,‎ said members of the association had only met once with state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, since he came into office on May 29, 2016.
However, it will be recalled that ALGON in the state was constituted immediately after the inauguration of local government council chairmen and councillors on February 11 this year.
Our correspondent gathered that most of the local government councils in the state had not been able to meet their financial obligations because of the inability of the joint account allocation committee to meet for the disbursement of funds to the local administration.
Investigations had shown that only N20 million each was disbursed to each of the councils from the JACC and this was a few weeks to the local government election.
Kagara said their meeting with Governor Bello was not on the issue of money but on how to improve their Internally Generated Revenue.
“Our deliberation with the governor was so rewarding as the governor advised us on how best to run the affair of the councils in the face of the present national and global economic realities, how to improve our internally generated revenue and how to ensure infrastructural development of the 25 local government councils.
“We sat down to know what is our problem.
“We are not after money.
“We are preparing our house.”
Despite the non-release of money to the councils, Kagara said none of the ALGON members had any plan to relinquish the mandate willingly given to them by the electorates in Niger State, adding: “We want to assure our people that local government chairmen in Niger State remain focused and are committed to ensuring and replicating the restoration agenda of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello at the grass root level.”
