Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have foiled an attempt to kidnap the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Nasarawa South Zone, Umar Nasir Black.
The spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, Rahman Nansel, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Sunday.
Nansel said the attempt to kidnap Black was made at about 8pm on Saturday when six armed gunmen stormed his residence at Bukan kwato area of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
He said upon receipt of the information, the Command’s Commissioner, Adesina Soyemi, immediately mobilised police patrol teams stationed at the area to the scene.
He said members of the community also joined the police in foiling the kidnap.
He said in the bid to escape, the hoodlums hit Black with a stick on his forehead and shot one of his neighbours on the right leg.
Nanasel said the gunmen “narrowly escaped into the nearby bushes.
“Consequently, the victims were rushed to the Hospital for medical treatment and are in stable condition.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
“Investigation is ongoing.”
