The pledge of the Ondo State Police Command to unmask those behind the violent attack and jail break at the Olokuta Medium Security Prison in Akure, seems to have been fulfilled as three suspects believed to have been among those behind the attack have been apprehended.
The police also announced that a total 14 suspected criminals were nabbed for various crimes ranging from kidnapping to armed robbery, jail break and rape.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Wole Ogodo, the command equally recovered 242 weapons of various calibre as well as 14 vehicles between August and October.
Ogodo, who explained the various crimes the suspected criminals have committed in various parts of the state, said some were apprehended outside the state with the help of the detectives in the State Anti Robbery Squad.
The state police image maker stated that three of the jail breaker suspects – Ahmed Ismail, Hassan Ibrahim and Bashir Jamiu – who attacked the Medium Security Prison at Olokuta on June 30, 2013, were arrested in Kogi and Kaduna States on August 2, 2013 by the detectives at States Criminal Investigation Department.
He said one AK47 rifle, four magazines, two IEDs and 90 rounds of live ammunitions were recovered where they were hidden in the bush near the Prison Yard by the suspects.
Ogodo added that effort is in top gear to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
He further said four kidnap suspects – Wale Agidi, Charles Okafor, Ganiyu Oseni and Oderinde Joshua – were apprehended.
So also were six armed robbery suspects arrested.
They are Bayo Makinde, Wasiu Olanrewaju, Chukwudi Nwafor, Wale Odogayan, Jeremiah Akpan and Timothy Oluwasegun.
Adebiyi Adewami was arrested for rape.
According to the state police command image maker, the armed robberies were executed in Ondo town and Alade Idanre, while the ammunition and stolen vehicles were recovered on Owa-Ani Expressway, Oba-Akoko and other scenes of crimes.
Ogodo said 185 live ammunitions, 29 Cartridges,20 locally made guns, 14 Vehicles, two AK47, two Pump action guns, one AK49,three IEDs.
Ogodo assured the people of the state that the command will be more proactive in tackling crime.
