A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has taken on the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, asking him to focus his attention on the state and respect its people and culture.
Reno spoke following Rhodes-Vivour’s criticism of the United Kingdom Secretary of State, Kemi Badenoch, for ignoring her root, Nigeria.
He said: “In response to Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s recent comments on UK Secretary of State Kemi Badenoch and reparations, it is essential to emphasize the importance of prioritizing local issues in Lagos, rather than engaging in foreign comparisons that do not directly impact Lagosians.
“Rhodes-Vivour’s characterization of Badenoch as ‘the Black face of White Supremacy’ diverts attention from the pressing needs facing Lagos.
“As a British official, Badenoch’s focus on British interests is entirely consistent with her role.
“These responsibilities do not influence Lagos or its priorities, and drawing such parallels distracts from the issues closer to home.
“While Rhodes-Vivour raises questions about reparations and historical injustices, real progress for Lagos and Nigeria lies in addressing local concerns.
“For Lagos to advance, it requires leadership that is fully committed to the city’s development and not sidetracked by foreign debates.

“True progress for Lagos requires leadership that prioritizes Lagosians, not the issues or interests of other nations.
“Recent positions taken by Rhodes-Vivour appear misaligned with the values and needs of Lagosians.
“For example, his opposition to the Oro festival, contrasted with his support for the New Yam festival, raises questions about his connection to Lagos’ unique heritage.
“Such selective focus may not fully honour the cultural values that define Lagos’ identity.
“Ultimately, leadership rooted in loyalty to Lagos and its people is essential for the city’s progress.
“The difference between Mr. Rhodes-Vivour and Kemi Badenoch is that her focus remains firmly on serving the people she represents.
“Rhodes-Vibour should be awake to the fact that for Lagos to thrive, it needs leaders fully dedicated to its priorities and future.”
