Oluwo to Ooni, other Obas: You can’t suspend me

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has said he cannot be suspended as the paramount ruler of his town.
Oba Akanbi said this shortly after the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers pronounced him suspended.
He said despite the despite his suspension by the OSCTR, headed by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, he remained the Oluwo of Iwo.
Writing on his Instagram page, Oba Akanbi said: “He was never suspended as Oluwo of Iwoland.
“The Osun State Traditional Council has only recommended his suspension from the council meetings and activities for six months on the guise that his conduct (being too flashy, stylish, human rights defender and swagging); and that (the suspension) is even subject to Governor’s approval.
“This clarification is important for the public notice!”
The OSCTR had at its emergency meeting presided over by Oba Ogunwusi in Osogbo banned the monarch from attending its meetings for the same period.
The council also constituted a committee headed by the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun, to further investigate the matter involving the Oluwo and other monarchs in the area.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Orangun of Ila, Oba Adedotun, said the decision of the council to suspend the Oluwo was not only because of the alleged fight between him and the Agbowu.
The monarch said the suspension was also due to his misconduct to other traditional rulers in Yorubaland.
Oba Adedotun said the council’s recommendations would be forwarded to the State Government and security agencies for appropriate action.
It would be recalled that Akanbi was alleged to have assaulted the Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikrulahi Akinropo, during a peace meeting in the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Bashir Makama, in Osogbo on February 14.
But the Oluwo of Iwo at a press conference on February 17 denied the allegation.
The state government had in a statement condemned the incident, describing it as “unfortunate and avoidable”.
The statement, signed by Funke Egbemode, Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said a situation where monarchs engaged in public display of temperament did not edify their revered stools.
